Jacqueline Robinson - Pennsylvania
My life has definitely been on fast-forward since completing the Yes We Can training. After the program, I returned to California where I immediately began fielding interviews from numerous campaigns. I keep in close contact with representatives from Grassroots Solutions who facilitated my interviews and subsequent placement into my current position as Zone 1 Mobilization Coordinator, in Pennsylvania, for the AFL-CIO Labor 2006 program. The Labor 2006 campaign works to get union members to support endorsed candidates-including Governor Ed Rendell and United States Senate Candidate Bob Casey. I am responsible for working with my co-coordinator to mobilize over 100 area locals.
I was both excited and scared of the opportunity to move to a new city but I have no time to dwell on the unexpected. We have Democratic races to win! I moved from California to Pennsylvania in the short span of two weeks and arrived in Pennsylvania on August 15 ready to work. My colleagues at the Labor Council have been so supportive with respect to my move and learning my way around the city. I appreciate them so much! I am also lucky to have two of my classmates nearby working on the Lois Murphy for Congress campaign.
Participating in the Yes We Can program was a once in a lifetime experience that I will truly treasure. Even as I am out here in the field, I know that I can call on any of my classmates or trainers to get the information I need to be successful. I would like to thank Senator Obama for his vision and inspiring all of us to dream big. I could not have imagined I would be in this place even a short six months ago. While people around me are impressed and proud of my involvement in Yes We Can, I remain impressed with the fact there are other young adults out there as concerned with the state of affairs in our country as I am, and willing to dedicate their talents to this cause.
