Alisa Morris - Iowa

I came into my position as Co-Deputy Finance Director for Congressional Candidate Bruce Braley prepared to work hard. From my training with Yes We Can, I knew what was needed to run a successful campaign. My time commitment and tasks were outlined for me using presentations, simulations, and testimonies from the many experts who took the time to teach us. The simulations we went through every night during the training prepared me for brainstorming with others in an efficient manner. From all of the discussions and work, I decided that finance sounded the most interesting to me. I now coordinate all in-state fundraising events for my candidate as well as handle other tasks.

Though being on the campaign trail has proven to be a continuous learning experience for me, I came into this race with more confidence than I would have without my training with Yes We Can. I reference my materials from the program on a regular basis to supplement what I am learning from the more experienced campaign staff. There have been few surprises for me due to my training. Rather, my experience is fleshing out the education I received.

The Yes We Can campaign training program would come highly recommended from me. I know so many intelligent individuals who desire to work for political change, but do not know how to go about it. This program is the ideal stepping-stone to a future in politics. The education, experience, and connections are priceless. A former participant in the program actually referred me, and for that, I am thankful. When you find a good thing, you should share it with everyone deserving of the experience. We cannot give back to the community or advance as people of color and women without helping as well. I would like to thank Senator Obama and Ellen Malcolm for recognizing this and doing something about it.
